Varsity Preps looks back on a busy day in recruiting and recaps some of the days biggest stories.

VP Recruiting Roundup

– (QB) Chase Litton – Wharton HS (FL) gave his commitment to his hometown school South Florida Monday morning. Litton choose the Bulls over offers from Marshall, UMass, Western Michigan, FIU and interest from Vanderbilt, Indiana, LSU and Tennessee. Litton (6’5 190 lbs) has the frame and passing skills to become an outstanding signal caller for the Bulls. *Committed to South Florida*

– (LB) Kendall Joseph – Belton Honea Path HS (SC) became the 1st commitment of the day when he officially pledged his talents to the Clemson Tigers. Joseph (6’1 220 lbs) was considered a possible lean to Duke but eventually choose to play his ball in Death Valley. Joseph is a physical and active LB that has the talents to start for the Clemson defense somewhere down the line.  *Committed to Clemson*

– (C) J.C. Hassenhauer – East Ridge HS (MN) is one of the top center prospects in the 2014 recruiting class and he will be taking his talents down south to play for the University of Alabama. Hassenhauer (6’2 290 lbs) committed to Bama on Monday over offers from Minnesota and Vanderbilt. The stock of Hassenhauer has been rising rapidly lately and the Tide cashed in on what could be the best interior offensive lineman in the Midwest region.  *Committed to Alabama*

– (C) Connor Mayes – Van Alstyne HS (TX) made a commitment on Monday and decided to take his talents from the lone star state up to play for the Gophers of Minnesota. Mayes (6’4 295 lbs) is a strong a physical lineman that should be a great addition to the Gophers offensive line. Mayes choose Minnesota over offers from Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU and Mississippi St.  *Committed to Minnesota*

– (RB) Vic Enwere – Ft. Bend Austin HS (TX) gave his commitment on Monday night to the University of California. Enwere picked the Golden Bears over Colorado, Duke, Houston and Baylor. Enwere (6’0 205 lbs) plays with power along with excellent athleticism in the open field and could be a steal for the Cal Golden Bears.  *Committed to California*

– (LB) Gavin Bryant – Jackson HS (AL) is a fast rising prospect that decided to make an official commitment on Monday to Tennessee. Bryant (6’1 220 lbs) is an athletic linebacker that has the speed and talents to turn into a big time SEC playmaker. Bryant picked the Vols over offers from Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky and Memphis.  *Committed to Tennessee*

– (RB) Ray Lawry – Kingsway HS (NJ) committed on Monday to Old Dominion after choosing the Monarchs over Akron, Maryland, Temple and Western Michigan. Lowry (5’10 180 lbs) is a speedy and shifty RB that can hit the open field in a hurry and could give the Monarchs a dynamic playmaker in the backfield. Lowry is an underrated recruit that could be a productive player for ODU.  *Committed to Old Dominion*

– (Ath) Vontae Diggs – Comm District 9 North HS (IL) decided to put an end to his recruitment on Monday by giving his commitment to the Toledo Rockets. Diggs is an interesting recruit because of his size (6’4 205 lbs) and athleticism and could eventually become an all-conference performer for the Rockets. Diggs choose Toledo over an offer from Ball St and interest from Illinois, Indiana and Michigan St.  *Committed to Toledo*

News & Notes

– (DT) Michael Sawyers  – Ensworth School (TN) officially named his Top 5 schools on Monday afternoon and a hometown program might be in the lead. Top 5: (No Order) Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Miami and Georgia Tech. Sawyers looks to want to keep his talents down south and this past weekend he attended a barbecue fit for the top prospects at Vanderbilt. He came away very impressed and has always thought heavily about the Commodores. Ole Miss and Tennessee could be the biggest challengers to Vanderbilt for Sawyers commitment.

– (Ath) Noah Brown – Pope John HS (NJ) announced his Top 8 schools he is considering and to some people there could be a few surprises amongst his list. Top 8: (No Order) Ohio St, Vanderbilt, USC, Rutgers, Michigan St, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and North Carolina. Brown is from the Northeast area so some would think Rutgers could have an early lead, but schools like Ohio St, Vanderbilt and North Carolina have put in serious time into the recruitment of Brown. No decision date for Brown, other programs still have a chance to get into his recruitment but at this time his Top 8 looks to be solid.

– (RB) LaJuan Hunt – University School (FL) named his Top 7 schools on Monday but quickly after announcing his top group he said other programs still have a chance to earn his commitment. Hunt’s Top 7: (No Order) Rutgers, Hawaii, Air Force, North Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. Hunt has been in consistent contact with all 7 schools and could have an early favoring towards Rutgers. He is an underrated RB that has strength, athleticism and the ability to hit the home run. Hunt is still wide open in his process and even if his makes a commitment he could still keep his ears open to others.
