Under the Radar: Florida Speedster Markenzy Pierre

2017 RB/S Markenzy Pierre of Liberty High School (Kissimmee, FL) is currently flying under the radar, but he won’t be for long.

The 6-foot, 190-pound athlete says he ran a 4.49/40 recently, but hasn’t heard from any college recruiters up to this point.

“The only thing to share really is a South Carolina summer camp invitation, that’s all I’ve heard.”

Last fall, the outstanding sophomore rushed for 698 yards on 88 carries (7.9 avg.) to go along with seven touchdowns. Playing safety on defense, he ended the year with 30 stops and two fumbles recovered. As a kick returner, he returned two for scores.

Pierre said he’s anxious to get the recruiting process under way.

“I’d like to hear from anyone, I don’t have a favorite school. I just want an opportunity to play college football and to get an education,” he said. “Growing up watching college football, I watch LSU, Georgia, and Florida St. the most.”

The talented athlete also runs track and plays basketball.

“I run the 100M, and I high and long jump for track,” Pierre shared. “The fastest 100M I’ve run is 10.9 seconds.

“For the basketball team, I play small and power forward.”

He says his best attribute on the field is being a team player.

“I know how to motivate my teammates, and we hold each other to a higher standard. Physically, I think my combination of size and speed makes it difficult for defenders to bring me down. I have good breakaway, too.”

School location won’t be a major factor when he decides on a program to play for.

“I’d prefer to play closer to home, but at the same time, if I have an unbelievable opportunity further away, I’ll definitely consider it.”

Early playing time won’t be a factor, either.

“I’m willing to redshirt, learn my position to become a better player.”

Pierre reports a 3.5 GPA and a desire to major in sports medicine.
