Under-the-Radar: 2015 CB Malik Henderson, South Plantation

2015 CB Malik Henderson (6’2, 165, 4.57) of South Plantation is a long, physical corner that has recorded 25 tackles, five tackles for loss, 21 pass deflections, one interception, and one fumble recovery for the 7-3 Paladins.

Henderson told Varsity Preps he’s receiving interest from Tennessee currently.

“I’m getting multiple letters from them, giving me updates on how the team is doing. The letters also gives me information on the staff and the program.”

He’s also heard from LouisvilleArkansasFlorida, and FIU. Just yesterday, he received an in-school visit from the South Florida staff.

Now that his season is over, he’s focused on the upcoming offseason.

“My two main goals are to gain 15 pounds and earn a starting position for the South Florida Express or Florida Fire 7-on-7 teams,” he said. “I’ll sit down with my coaches and figure out which camps and combines I should attend. I’m also going to focus on the weight room, concentrate on getting bigger until all the other offseason events get rolling.”

South Plantation’s junior corner feels his instincts are the best part of his game.

“I feel I make it difficult for offensive coordinators to throw the ball to my side. I can limit what the offense does by taking away one side of the field. When I’m not making plays, I still feel like I’ve influenced the play by making them attack another area of the field.”

When making his college choice, Henderson said he’d prefer to play college football out of state.

Academics will play a role in Henderson’s decision. A well-rounded education and campus experience will influence his choice. He has a 3.9 weighted GPA and will study architecture in college. He’s slated to take the ACT next month.

Programs that show interest early in the tall corner will have an edge come signing day in 2015.

“That will be important to me as I narrow my choices.”
