Tyler Matlock: 2015 Texas Spotlight

In the eyes of many football fans, Texas is the center of the college football universe and has been since well before college football became a part of the normal Saturday routine during the fall. Texas continues not to disappoint and remains a major hotbed for finding great high school football recruits. One of those recruits, is Tyler Matlock, is a cornerback out of Hutto, Texas (22 miles northeast of Austin) and fits into Hutto’s secondary nicely. Over the past few months, Matlock has started to attract the attention of scouts from Southern Arkansas, Wright State, and Texas-San Antonio. Matlock is going to be a recruit that gets examined in depth during throughout the summer. To their good fortune, scouts will have plenty of chances to observe him between now and the start of fall practice.

From the film I have observe, Matlock plays with intensity and a great amount of skill and always seems to know what’s happening on the field. Matlock plays the ball and is a physical corner that can shut down wide receivers. Matlock’s size at 6’1 is a major plus as wide receivers get taller and stronger. He can more than hold his own and will make life tough in the secondary on opposing wide receivers this fall. Tyler is a recruit that will begin to show up on an increasing number of college football radar screens as fall football season gets closer. Matlock’s work ethic is impressive on the field as well as off. Matlock is very detailed when it comes to what he puts on the field and just in visiting with this young man.

Look for Hutto to improve even more this season and that should translate to even more success on the field for Tyler. Hutto will be taking part in several 7 on 7 competitions as the spring and summer progress. From looking at Tyler’s film, what people can see is that he has the speed to opposing players down from behind. What I find the most interesting though is this is a young man who will not make a business decision; he will blow the receiver up on a tackle. For fans of 7 on 7 camps, you will have several chances to see Tyler play this summer. Catch him at the Round Rock tournament on May 24th, the Belton tourney on June 7th, and the Marble Falls camp on June 21st. Matlock will all also be attending numerous skills camps at Baylor, Texas-San Antonio, and TCU to just name a few. People will not be disappointed because this young man will only get better as the summer progresses and throughout the season this fall.
