Toledo is first to offer 2014 S/LB Drue Tranquill

The Adidas Invitational Saturday at Grand Valley State in Allendale,Michigan was loaded with prospects with multiple offers. But it also had several under the radar athletes who were looking for their first offer.

Ft. Wayne Carroll (Ind.) junior Drue Tranquill showed up to the camp wearing a black scarf, like Deion Sanders used to wear. Tranquill worked out at safety and linebacker, winning the MVP of the safety group.

Late last night Tranquill received his first offer from Toledo. “It was relieving to get the offer”, said Tranquill. “Working with AWP Sports in Ft.Wayne,Indiana we have a thing called the process, so it was just the first step in the who process.”

Tranquill did well at the camp in 1-on-1 drills, locking down receivers and earning camp honors. “The camp definitely helped me in my exposure. Especially coming from Indiana, and being white playing the safety position.”

“The camp was really fun: gave me the opportunity to show my skills and to jam some guys”, said Tranquill. “I think I played really physical, though too physical at times, and I need to work on my footwork.”

Tranquill is a very versatile athlete at 6-2, 200-pounds, and says he wants to play safety in college. Toledo is also recruiting him at that very position.

“I want to continue to play safety, and playing centerfielder in baseball helps me out a lot, roaming the field.”

MAC schools have been showing serious interest in Tranquill’s services, along with some Big Ten schools. “I’ve had a lot of contact with Indiana,Purdue, and NC State, and some contact with Ohio State and Michigan State through Facebook.”

Tranquill has plans to attend the Rivals camp in Cincinnati April 20, and hopes to get an invite to Nike The Opening this summer.

“I plan to visit Toledo sometime next week,” said Tranquill.
