Kosnitzky’s Korner: South Florida Media Day – A Great Experience For All

As we have begun fall practice, we are hungry to learn whatever we can from the neighboring high school in our area.  I look forward to seeing many of the national telecasts that take away from the preseason experience.  Elite programs in South Florida such as Saint Thomas, Booker T. Washington, Miami Central, Cypress Bay, and University School and others tend to get much of the spotlight compared with other programs in my area.  This is why I praise the Miami Dolphins Youth Academy for hosting this first annual media event at Sun Life Stadium which included over 60 programs in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area.

Students and coaches were exposed to an interview experience which in part would model a pro or prominent college football team.  As we shape these young men into greater roles, this experience enabled them to grow as people.  I am guilty of focusing my time and visits toward the top schools in my area.  This is unfortunate due to interest and by design due to the fact that the top recruits often congregate at a few select schools so that “diamond in the rough” could be missed or is at least marginalized.

Hence, it was nice to provide some level of equal exposure to other schools such as Miami Springs, Reagan, Mater Academy, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning, Pompano Beach and many others.  These schools offer much excitement to us all and I hope their coverage may lure more of us to cover these schools with as much enthusiasm as we cover the notables in my community.  You will not see these schools on ESPN any time soon but their presence and efforts could not be understated.  In the end,  I  know that many others and I will  be self absorbed with the same programs.  However, the hope is that my peers and I will figure a way to attend each of these school’s games at some point this year.
