Rising Star: 2015 RB/DB, Markell Henderson Spotlight

They say dynamite comes in small packages. Those words never ring more true than watching TMI-Episcopal High School (San Antonio, TX) running back, Markell Henderson (5’6, 145, 4.5/40) carve up opposing defenses. As a junior, the fleet-footed Henderson rushed for 1087 yards on only 103 carries for a staggering 10.55 yards per carry while reaching the end-zone 17 times. He also caught 14 passes for another 150 yards. Markell was named 1st team All-District in the TAPPS Class 4A Division in Texas.

At first glance, Henderson’s size won’t impress you, but he more than makes up for it with his speed and elusiveness. He possesses great field vision, with a knack for making opponents miss. He is very hard to tackle in open space, but also has the ability to be shifty and physical between the tackles. Henderson is a two-way player and as a DB, he finished the season with 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries for TD’s.
