Rising Star: 2015 RB, Kris Parker Spotlight

Many people believe that championship teams are made up of 4 & 5 star type players, but that is far from the truth.  Hoover High School (Hoover, AL) has won back to back 6A state titles, but not without their all-purpose, “blue collar” running back, Kris “Meat” Parker.

Hoover head coach Josh Niblett is extremely high on Parker:

“Kris is an unbelievable athlete, very physical, runs great routes, has great hands, is a great blocker inside the box and outside the box.  I’d go as far as to say he’s the most valuable player to what we do on our offense.”

Parker is an “all-purpose, every down” type back.  Gifted with a unique blend of power, speed and quickness, Parker can run over you or by you.  Parker only got to carry the ball 41 times on the year, but made the most of his opportunities by totaling 221 yards (5.4 ypc) and 2 TD’s, while catching 11 passes for 132 yards and 1 TD.  Parker really excels as a blocker.  He destroys linebackers when lead blocking and can more than hold his own when taking on a defensive end.

But Parker is not just an offensive force.  Parker played on Special Teams and was a beast.  Hoover RB coach, Jason Kervin believes Parker is his best blocking back on the team and that comes from Parker previously playing linebacker until 9th grade and playing on special teams.  Kervin believes his physicality is underestimated.

Don’t just take our word for it.  Look at Parker’s highlight reel Kris Parker 2013 Junior Highlights on Hudl.com

Kervin stated, “Kris is probably the best ball carrier that I’ve ever had.  He can really do everything for you.  He understands the scheme, very physical blocker, but his best attribute is his feet.  He has exceptional feet and a knack for running the ball.  Great feel for hitting the hole, but patient enough to let the block develop.  Great team player and never pouted about not getting more carries.  Kris is an artist in the backfield.”

Kervin added, “Kris is a model student-athlete, on and off the field.”

Parker realizes that education is very important and says he wants to major in Sports Medicine or Exercise Physiology in college. Until that time, he is working hard to improve his forty time, raise his 2.9 GPA and preparing to take the ACT.  Stay tuned for more highlights in 2014 from Kris!
