Palmetto State Lineman Likes ACC School

Earlier this week 2014 North Augusta HS (SC) OG/C Jake Whitley received an official offer from the University of Maryland and the offer from the Terps is something he has been waiting on for quite some time.

The Terrapins HC Randy Edsall has been actively pursuing Whitley for a while and now with an offer in hand the Palmetto State lineman is taking a serious approach into researching everything about the Maryland program.

“Me and the coaches at Maryland have been in contact for a long time and it feels good to finally have an official offer from them,” said Whitley. “I really like their program and everything they have going up there. The coaches seem like good people and I plan to stay in active with talking with them.”

Whitley (6’3 305 lbs) has seen his recruitment go well with multiple offers from Division 1 programs but the offer from Maryland became his 1st official BCS offer and it might not be his last.

Coaches from bigger programs have been in contact with Whitley but now that the Terps offered they finally may be interested enough to send an offer his way.

Sometime next week Whitley says Missouri is coming his way to check him out while schools like Ga Tech, NC State, Wake Forest, East Carolina and others are intrigued enough to invite him to campus.

“I am looking forward to seeing Missouri next week. They have begun to show a good deal of interest and I would like to hear what they have to offer, he said.”

“This summer I plan to take several visits as well as attend multiple camps. Coaches have told me they want to see me in person before they officially offer. I am looking for a school that fits me but also a place that I think will give me the best college experience.’

Maryland is one school that certainly has as good a shot as any at landing Whitley. He does plan to visit them this summer and he is excited about seeing what the Terrapins program is all about.

“I will be up at Maryland at some point this summer. I am not sure on the date yet but I will be going and I am real excited about being there, Whitley said.”

“I don’t have any current favorites but Maryland will be a school that stays at the top of my list. They are an up coming ACC program that has shown me a great deal of interest, so I will give that back to them.”

Whitley is a strong and versatile lineman that could easily his stock rise after his ACC offer. He is a solid prospect that will be on the radar of several BCS programs after the summer season.
