North Pontotoc High School Speedster Marcus Green

Every year, there is that one player that steps up and becomes one of the top players in the state of Mississippi.  Whether it be a big time quarterback or an exciting play making wide receiver, the Magnolia State never seems to let you down with players that can compete at the next level.

One of those athletes to keep an eye on for the coming season will be North Pontotoc High School speedster Marcus Green(5’10” 165 lbs).  The talented wide out recently turned in an impressive showing at the Steve Robertson Southeast Select Combine in Tupelo and is headed to some camps in the next few weeks to show the schools in the state of Mississippi what he brings to the table.

Green is trying to set up his camp schedule to make sure that he has a few options.  Louisiana-Monroe recently offered and Green is looking for more.

“I will be heading over to Ole Miss for camp on Friday and then over to Mississippi State next Thursday,” said Green.  “I have been talking a lot to Coach Sallach.  He is pushing me a lot to come to camp at Mississippi State right now.  I am neutral with all of my schools right now.  Ole Miss seems to have changed since they got all of those big time recruits and don’t pay other kids that much attention.

“Coach Sallach said they are not offering many receivers right now but if I come in and work hard that I could change that.  As much as I like Ole Miss, I’ll pick State over them if I had to decide right now and had offers from both of them.  I want to make an impact even if it is on special teams.”

As far as the coming season is concerned, Green feels like his team can make an impact.  He feels the spring showed how good they can be.

“We are going to be really good this coming season,”  he said.  “I feel like we are going to go a lot further then we did last season.  I think I had a good spring.  I had a touchdown reception in the spring game and caught a lot of balls.”
