Meet Bailey Burton From Clear Creek High School (TX) – c/o 2014

Name: Bailey Burton

High School: Clear Creek High School

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 272 pounds

Position: Center

Texas churns out some of the top football players nationally on a yearly basis.  One of the more underrated stars in the “Lone Star” state is Bailey Burton from Clear Creek High School.  Bailey, currently a junior, is a 6’0”, 272 pound center, who made 11 starts and helped his team make the Texas 5-A playoffs during the 2012 season.  Burton is one of the more aggressive centers that I’ve gotten to watch so far in the offseason.  His highlight tape displays a lot of his strengths.  Burton may not be considered “tall” at the Division 1 level, but he more than makes up for that in his play.

His recruiting tape highlights several things that college coaches like to see in a lineman.  Burton is very aggressive and knows how to use leverage against anybody he is blocking.  His highlight tape is basically a guide in how to “pancake” an opposing defender.  Some linemen tend to not “finish” their blocks, but not Burton. He ended the 2012 season with 43 pancakes and 63 knockdowns.  Burton has received some interest from some schools.  He said, “Right now, I’m getting interest from SMU, UTSA, Yale, Michigan, and Utah.”

When coaches take a look at his film, they will see that he is pretty athletic for his size, has good strength, and shows explosiveness.  Burton is able to block defenders effectively at the second level.  “I’m looking for a school that has great academics, great football, and great athletic facilities”, said Burton.  Click here to view his 2012 season highlights.

Cleezy’s Extra Point: There’s a lot to like about Burton from what I’ve seen on his highlight film. He says he graded at 84% for the year so there’s definitely room for improvement. Whether or not college coaches consider him to be “tall enough” to play the center position will be seen, but  I can see some colleges taking a chance on Burton due to his excellent blocking ability and aggressiveness.
