One of the names that fans across the Magnolia State better get used to hearing  next  year is Oxford High School linebacker Michael McGhee.  The talented 6 foot 1  233 pound McGhee is starting to show the world the god given talent he possesses on the gridiron.  After leading the Charger defense all the way to Jackson, McGhee is preparing for a senior season to improve on his 153 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks from his middle linebacker position.

McGhee is working on his game each and every day.  He has some areas he wants to improve as he goes along.

“I would say that I am a read and react type of linebacker,” said McGhee.  “I love to fly around to the ball and be physical when I get there.  I love to hit and hit hard.  That is a very important part of my game, I love to be physical.

“I want to work on my speed and footwork.  You can never be fast enough.  I ran 4.8 at Mississippi State but I want to get faster then that.  I also want to work more on my coverage skills and become the best linebacker I can be.”

McGhee jump started his recruiting this off season by attending several camps to show coaches what he can do.  Now he has a clear idea about his recruiting.

“Education wise, I would like to major in Exercise science or sports management,” he said.  “Something like that.   Football wise, I am the type of guy that I would like to stay close to home so my family and friends can come watch me play on Saturdays.  I will probably go through my senior season and take some visits before I decide on anything.  I just want to enjoy the process.”

Three schools are standing out to McGhee right now.  He is looking hard at those schools going forward.

“Auburn is a school that I like,” he said.  “I really like Coach J.B. Grimes over there.  They have a great coaching staff and I like all of them and feel like they can help me get better.

“Ole Miss is right here and I like them a lot too.  They are close so my family and friends can come watch me play.  I like Coach Freeze, Coach Luke, and Coach Allen, the linebacker coach.

“Mississippi State is up there too.  Starkville is close enough that my friends and family could come watch me play.  I really like Coach Townsend and Coach Mullen.”
