Mac Hereford: Class of 2016 Spotlight

Mac Hereford

Emil Zatopek once said, “An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in head.”

“Heart is everything,” Mac Hereford said. “I want to be an example and inspiration to others.”

Woodberry Forest (VA)’s Hereford is hoping to turn his dream of playing on the next level into reality and let his hard work pay off.

Hereford is a 6’2”, 200-pound upcoming senior for Woodberry who has a lot to offer.

With Woodberry having an All-State returning senior taking the job as RB, Hereford’s hard work allowed him to step into the game for many reps as an RB.

“My key aspect is versatility and being able to play almost anything on offense,” Hereford said. “Coaches who came to spring ball have been very impressed.”

How versatile is he?

Hereford has played slot and wide receiver, tight end and running back.

“My junior year was basically hard because I am very versatile,” Hereford said. “The coaches didn’t know where to put me.”

Along with his versatility, Hereford’s hard work is noticeable.

“I’m a work horse,” Hereford said. “I am in the gym lifting or doing routes with my quarterback and participating in winter and spring track to work on my speed.”

Hereford’s “work horse” attitude is paying off as the upcoming senior squats 385 and clocks at 4.44 on the shuttle and 4.69 on the 40-yard dash.

With the 2015 campaign edging closer, Hereford has high hopes.

“This year I am going to have a break out season,” Hereford said.
