Lonnie Johnson Commits To Ohio State On Mother’s Day

Gary (Ind.) Westside 2014 athlete Lonnie Johnson gave his mother the best Mother’s Day gift possible. After naming a top five list of Ohio State, Kentucky, Indiana, Purdue and Missouri earlier today, he chose to take his talents to Columbus, Ohio.

Johnson is a the eighth commit in Ohio State’s 2014 recruiting class, joining the likes of Damon Webb, Kyle Berger, and Kyle Trout.

“I chose Ohio State because it was a gift to my mom,” Johnson said. Today is Mother’s Day, so I gave her the best gift I could.”

“Me and my parents talked about it, and they comfortable, and I felt comfortable.”

At 6-3, 185-pounds, Johnson is listed as an athlete, but will play wide receiver at Ohio State. He caught 31 balls for 777 yards and 13 touchdowns last season as a junior.

“I talked to all the coaches today,” said Johnson. “Coach Meyer was excited, and said that he has great plans for me. He also said he couldn’t wait to see me in a jersey for four years.”

Johnson turned down offers from Nebraska, Missouri, Cincinnati, and Illinois to become a Buckeye. He will help add some depth, size, speed, and athleticism to the wide receivers corps at OSU.

Johnson is currently a teammate with a Hinsdale Central (Ill.) 2014 tight end Ian Bunting on their Core6 traveling 7-on-7 team. Bunting is committed to the Michigan Wolverines.

“We talked today over Twitter, and said we’re going to win this championship together, and then after that we’re not talking to each other anymore.”
