Lone Star State Brings Elite Athlete To The Spotlight
- Updated: April 27, 2013

Being a standout player takes more than physical strength. Will Campbell, quarterback for Lone Star High School in Frisco, Tex. has those extra qualities.
“I’m smarter than all the other quarterbacks,” said Campbell.
With a 3.5 core GPA and a score of 25 on his ACT test, that seems to be true. Campbell stands at 6’3, weighing 213 lbs. Although he hasn’t had any official offers, Syracuse, Purdue and Akron are close on his tail.
Ohio University, Oklahoma State, Southern Mississippi, Kansas State, Tulane and Troy have also made their presence known. He has been invited to multiple camps and campus visits in the past few weeks.
“I’ve always loved football,” said Campbell. “I’ve always been a quarterback. I just love having the ball in my hands.”
Campbell made first team all-district quarterback in 2012 with 65.7% accuracy, 20 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
He says the biggest factor for deciding on a school is the relationship with the coaching staff and having a system he can succeed in.
“I’m going to be with him for four or five years,” he said. “It matters what kind of person he is.”
Finding that “good fit” for a school is important as he hopes he won’t have to take all of his official visits. Campbell will graduate early and play one season at Atlanta Sports Academy. He plans to enroll in the spring 2014 semester to whichever university he commits to in January.
“I’ve played since flag football,” he said. “Football’s fun… just being out there.”
The one thing Campbell says he wants to work on is his speed.
“Every year the game gets faster, the plays get faster,” said Campbell. “If I get faster I’ll become more of an all-around player.”
With his accuracy on and off the field being so high, it doesn’t come as a shock that Campbell holds his abilities in high regard. When asked what makes him stand out he said his academics and his ability to throw the ball around.
“It’s elite,” he said, humbly.
