La’Dante Davenport “In The Trenches”

Summer camps have become a platform for recruits for prospects to showcase their talents and catch the attention of college coaches and evaluators. After a busy summer on the camp circuit, one player to keep an eye on is Northwood, Shreveport (La.) Rising Junior La’ Dante Davenport.

The 6’3 265  Defensive Lineman racked up 54 tackles (22 TFL) 8 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 4 fumbles recovered and 13 batted balls earning him All-District honors.

“I had a really good season last year. This year will be a lot better; I’ve learned a lot of things to add to my game.”

So far, Davenport has received interest from ULL, Ole Miss, LSU, Michigan, La Tech, Houston and Texas A&M.

“ULL really showed me love on my unofficial visit. It seems like a great place to play. Ole Miss has great facilities, a great campus and great coaches.”

Jim Gatlin, head coach of Northwood is looking for Davenport to build on last year’s breakout season this fall.

“I’m looking to be a great teammate and a great player. We’re trying to win a championship this year.”

Northwood lost in the playoffs to 4A State Champion Edna Karr in the second round.

Outstanding against the run.

Great at standing up opposing lineman to locate the ball carrier.

In pass rush situations Davenport plays with his hands up, closing up throwing lanes on opposing quarterbacks.

In pass-rush situations, he occasionally engages blockers too long instead of using his hands and strength to get around the blocker.

Davenport camped at ULL, Ole Miss and Northwestern State.

“I learned a lot this summer. I needed to work on my speed and quickness.”
