Maybe by proximity or just by chance but I have had the pleasure of speaking with and or watching five star Running Back, Dalvin Cook during much of his high school career at Miami Central.  Whether it be from the confines of Traz Powell Stadium in Miami or the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, this young man has showed great poise on and off the field.

While Cook committed to the University of Florida last April, his stance in recent times has been so soft that some recruiting sites list him as “uncommitted” at this time. His top three schools to date are Florida, Florida State and Miami.

In 2013, while leading his school to a consecutive state title, Cook rushed for 1940 yards, while scoring 34 touchdown. This includes his performance in the state title game where he rushed for 226 yards and 4 touchdowns.  These numbers were in spite of him sharing carries with 4 star, Miami recruit, Joseph Yearby and having limited action in the second half of games due to his team’s insurmountable leads.

At the state title game on December 14, Cook stated he had already come to a decision. He also stated that he planned on sharing his decision on Jan. 2, 2014 during halftime of the Under Armour All-America Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. Then, on December 24, FSU Running Back and Miami Central alum, Devonta Freeman posted the instagram picture below welcoming Cook among others to FSU.

However, Luke Stampini, who covers Florida recruiting for 247 Sports, provided the latest update this afternoon which adds to the drama.

With an announcement date set for January 2, this recruiting saga is reaching a climax.  Whether Cook follows his close teammate, Joseph Yearby at Miami, mentor, Devonta Freeman at FSU, or honor his original commitment at Florida, we will know his answer “soon enough.
