Kosnitzky’s Korner: Mid Season Four Korners

As we move through the halfway mark of the regular season, I thought it would be a good time to look at four items that caught my eye from this week.

1) Miami Norland and a Gamble:

  • When Miami Norland joined heavily crowded 16-6A, it would become an issue of survival of the fittest.  This was evident this week when they challenged Miami Northwestern. To coin the Darwin term, this was a must win for the 2011 State Champions.  The Vikings (2-4, 1-1), would take the gamble and lose 27-26 to the Bulls (3-2, 1-1) on a late and failed 2 point conversion.

2) Plantation American Heritage Gets One Back:

  • In District 16-5A, Plantation American Heritage (5-1, 1-0) gained a level of vengeance  and a district victory against Miami Jackson (3-2, 0-1) with a 26-22 victory this week.  Despite a late charge by the Generals to erase a two touchdown deficit, the Patriots would have the last laugh with a late score by Isaiah McKenzie. While Cardinal Gibbons is still in the equation, look for Miami Jackson to return to Western Plantation for the 3rd year in a row for a playoff game.

3) It is North Miami Time!

  • In District 13-8A, one does not usually account for North Miami when it comes to playoff discussion. This is why few expected them to challenge North Miami Beach.  The Pioneers (5-0, 2-0) pulled the upset this week by knocking off the Chargers (2-5, 1-1) 23-14 and placing themselves in position to move farther than they ever have since 1999.

4) The Year of the Falcons!

  • In District 12-8A, the team that has gained attention over the typical teams is Pembroke Pines Flanagan (6-0, 2-0).  Miramar Everglades (3-3, 1-2) would take a 13 point lead against them into the fourth quarter this week. However, the Falcons would figure a way to involve Emonee Spence and would come back to win this critical district game. 21-20.  With Miramar looming on their schedule, the Falcons are going through their schedule with increased confidence.
