Kendal Franklin commits to Arizona

Arizona continues to work its recruiting magic in Louisiana as 2015 Warren Easton defensive end/linebacker hybrid Kendal Franklin committed to the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Franklin’s recruitment blew up after receiving his first offer from Boise State in March. He also held offers from Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Appalachian State, Memphis and several others. But it was the family bond with his recruiters at Arizona that helped him make the ultimate choice to “Bear Down.”

“(Offensive coordinator Calvin) McGee went to school with my uncle and some of my uncle’s friends, and they had nothing but good things to say about him,” Franklin said. “I know that he’s a good guy that would have my back just in case anything happens while I’m out there. And head coach (Rich) Rodriguez coached my defensive coordinator; I heard nothing but good things about him, too.”

The decision ends recruitment for the three-star athlete, emphasizing that he’s shifting his focus to helping his team win a state championship. Franklin stated that it felt like the right time to commit after talking it over with his dad and other family members.

The 6-3, 230-pound pass rusher will fit in perfectly with Arizona’s 3-3-5 defense. Franklin should feel right at home as an outside linebacker at the next level and has plenty of speed to make plays in the backfield.

“Coach Rodriguez and coach McGee want me to play outside and come off the edge as an any-down rush guy, and I’ll be able to drop down into pass coverage, too,” Franklin said. “Either way, the quarterback is going to know that I’m there.”

Franklin is “100 percent” firm on his commitment and will be joined by several other standouts from the Bayou State.

“I talked to Shea Patterson, the quarterback from Calvary, and some of the other players that committed,” Franklin said. “We’re just all excited, and everybody is just happy to be together going (to Arizona). We can’t wait to play together.”
