Elite 75 in Florida 26-50 Preview: #36 Darrion Owens, Oakleaf

2014 LB Darrion Owens (6’4, 220, 4.5) of Oakleaf High owns offers from NC State, Maryland, Boston College, Western Michigan, UCF, TroyLouisville, Kentucky, and Iowa St.

He told Varsity Preps the Florida Gators have inquired about his interest in their program. “I haven’t spoken with them yet, but they send letters and they’ve spoken with my coaches.”

The UCF Knights are recruiting the physical linebacker hard. “The coaches tell me that if I attend UCF, I can help change things for their program.”

Owens reports he definitely plans to attend a couple of university camps over the summer. “I’m going to Louisville, Boston College, and any other school’s camp that might be interested in me.”

The most important factor in his college choice will be his confidence in the coaching staff leading a successful program. “I want to experience college football; I want to to play in big bowl games and play for championships.”

While school location won’t enter into his decision making, the chance to play early will. “Yes sir, I’d like to contribute as early as possible.”

Owens reports 80 tackles, one INT, three PBUs, and four forced fumbles in last season’s action.

He knows when he’d like to have a verbal commitment in place. “I’ll wait until after the season and after my visits. I’m keeping all my options open.”

An assistant coach at Oakleaf says of Owens: “He’s a blessing. Darrion has never been in trouble. He’s respectable, always puts God first. He hangs out with hard workers and kids of like mind. On the field, he’s the leader of our defense, is vocal when he needs to be. He’s very physical and is game-planned against. Darrion wins all one-on-one matchups, is a head-hunter, and causes problems for all of our opponents.”
