E. Washington offers Calif. LB/DB Kody Beckering

Eastern Washington, one of the top FCS programs, unearthed one of the 2014 recruiting class’ hidden gems in Sunnyside High (Fresno, Calif.) linebacker/defensive back Kody Beckering, giving the senior-to-be his first scholarship offer.

The offer caught Beckering off guard.

“I thought we were just having a good conversation—asking me how I was doing—and he pulled out an offer,” Beckering said. “…It was pretty generous, I was happy.”

Beckering has started for the Wildcats since his sophomore season and last year as a junior he set school records by averaging 17 tackles per game for the season.

Last year he set those records playing linebacker at 6-foot and approximately 190 pounds. This spring he’s been running track at approximately 175 pounds and working on his speed.

“It’s a big improvement, I’m very glad I did track this year,” Beckering said about his speed. “I feel I will be a lot more explosive and a lot faster than I was last year.”

Beckering’s best time in the 100m is 11.44.

He’s also been working on his backpedalling and footwork and is open to playing defensive back at the college level.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the Eagles’ coaching staff may have said Beckering can play “wherever the hell he wants” as far as a position.
