Drew Barker Commits To Kentucky

The #141 Ranked Recruit by ESPN in the Class of 2014, Drew Barker, has finally made his decision to attend the University of Kentucky. He chose the Wildcats over South Carolina and Tennessee, with other offers from Ole Miss, Louisville, Miami, and Mississippi State, among others. Drew is known as one of the top Quarterbacks in the nation, with the ability to catch defenders slipping by tucking the ball and running, and most importantly, being a prolific passer. Barker will fit in well with the newly equipped Air Raid offense under Offensive Coordinator Neal Brown.

Barker says that six months ago, he definitely didn’t think that he would put on a UK hat, mostly due to the fact that the previous staff didn’t bother contacting him about playing for Kentucky. Bittersweet for most Kentucky fans, where they now truly know how disappointing the previously was, but how bright the future is for the University as a whole.

Barker says that this decision did not come easily for him, stating that he was fairly close to being a Gamecock. He says he felt that years down the road he’d look back after seeing the success Kentucky was experiencing and say “man I missed out on that.”

Barker says that he plans on coming in day one and working his butt off, eventually earning thatstarting position as a Freshman. With 5 Quarterbacks now on the roster in 2014, this will take a lot, but Drew believes he can and will achieve that goal. A lot factors into the decisions and reasons for commitment of these young recruits, but usually, one or two things stand out to them about their school of choice among others. Drew says their academics, athletics and social programs are what stood out. The new atmosphere around the program were also huge. “The vibe at Kentucky is completely different. You can see it with the fans. They are going down a new path most didn’t think Kentucky Football could go through.”

Not only is UK receiving one of the top Quarterbacks in the nation, but what comes with Drew may be where UK strikes the gold. Barker has quite a following with recruits, and many have expressed interest in following Drew to Kentucky. Barker says that he will now contact big time recruits like Derek Kief, Braxton Berrios, Matt Elam, Blake Bone, and Nick Glass about joining him at the University of Kentucky. I am the first to tell you that every player on that list is either likely, or very possible of joining Drew at Kentucky. I have talked to several recruits (other than those listed above) that were extremely interested in Kentucky before, and they told me Barker’s commitment likely solidified their’s, also. After Barker’s addition, Kentucky moved up to #23 on the 247 Sports Recruiting Class Rankings for 2014, and what comes after this now will only shoot them up further in the charts.

Great news is coming for Kentucky in the near future and you will hear about it here at Varsity Preps.
