Columbus’ Sasha Kelsey Seeing His Recruitment Pick Up

2014 WR Sasha Kelsey (6’0, 185, 4.49) of Columbus High in Miami (FL) has verbal offers from Appalachian St. and Colgate, and he hears frequently from Duke, Wake Forest, CincinnatiNavy, Western Kentucky, and Florida Atlantic.

At the midway point of this season, Kelsey has 26 receptions for 409 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also added one interception on defense.

Columbus‘ senior wideout hasn’t visited any programs yet, but is in the process of making plans to see Appalachian St. and Yale later this year. However, Kelsey did camp at Appalachian St. this summer and he spoke about his experience there. “I went with Trumaine Washington, he just committed there. It’s a small town surrounded by mountains and I feel everyone there’s behind the football team, but it just has a different feel to it. It was nice, I enjoyed it.”

Recruiting for Kelsey started off slow because of broken ribs last season resulting in limited film. But things have started to pick up for him.

Wake Forest, Cincinnati, WKU, and FAU are talking to me now through Facebook,” he said. “They’re telling me they want me to visit their campuses and take a game or two in, and they all want to see more film.

Appalachian St. says I could play slot receiver and maybe get a look at kicking, and the Colgate coaches are saying I could make a huge impact for them right away.”

Yale and Cornell are recruiting him the hardest currently, he reports. “Yale wants all my paperwork sent to them, which I’m sending them shortly. Head coach Tony Reno has been sending handwritten letters and calling every week,” Kelsey shared. “It’s basically the same situation with Cornell.”

Kelsey is fluent in Russian and will major in international law. He carries a 4.2 GPA.
