Colon Looking Nation Wide

Some teams just have a knack for putting big, nasty defensive lineman in the NFL each and every year. The really cool thing about that, most of these schools are in the Southeastern Conference and that makes the big time defensive linemen across the country look down south for the chance to play their college football.

One of those players looking for a chance to prove he can be one of those defensive lineman that could land in the NFL is Independence High School (Charlotte, NC) 2016 defensive tackle Christian Colon. The 6-foot-3, 285 pound Colon is one of the top athletes in the nation for his class and is working hard to get even better.

Colon has started to separate himself from the pack with his drive and relentless work ethic. Now the talented big man is hoping that all his hard work pays off and gets him the recognition he deserves.

“I like to play down hill,” said Colon. “I am an attack the ball kind of player that likes to disrupt the backfield.  Monday through Friday, I have been running track to get faster. I also lift weights everyday and I’m also working with my speed trainer. I work in the film room breaking down film in order to get better. I also attend a lot of camps to get good instruction and show what I can do.”

Colon is approaching his recruiting process with a clear understanding of what he can accomplish. He has some goals for himself that he is working hard to reach.

“Education wise, I would like to major in kinesiology,” he said. “I want to stay close to the game. I want to help younger players get to the next level. If I help people, I feel like I have done something with my life. From a football standpoint, I’m looking for a team that has a reputation for big, nasty defensive lineman. Schools like Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, and Nebraska; schools that prepares their players for the next level.

“I have clear goals set for myself each year of high school. Last year I want to play varsity as a freshman. I did that. This yea,r I want to make all conference. As a junior, I want to be all state and as a senior, I want to be an All-American. My goal is to get back to the Under Armour game my senior year.

Mississippi State intrigues me because of that intense rivalry with Ole Miss. Dan Mullen is a great coach and one I really admire. I think David Turner is one of the top defensive line coaches and has put a lot of players in the NFL. Plus, I really want to play SEC football. I am coming down with Robert Washington to check everything out this summer.”
