Breylin Smith Commits to Central Arkansas

Another Arkansan is off the board. This time it is the No. 2 Quarterback in the state. He’s staying home too. His backyard really.

Breylin Smith has committed to Central Arkansas, in Conway which is where Smith resides and attends Conway High School. The Wampus Cat signal caller chose the Bears over a scholarship offer from Southeast Missouri State and a preferred walk-on spot from Razorbacks three hours up north.

Smith may be the lone #ARPreps 16 for 16 quarterback to play college football. His only competition in the state for the title of top QB in the state, Kasey Ford of Bentonville is likely going to play solely baseball at Kansas State.

Smith has been putting up outstanding numbers at Conway. Over the last two seasons, Smith has thrown for over 4,000 yards and 44 touchdowns. All while throwing only 10 interceptions in that time. A four-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio will impress any coach on any level. That is why Arkansas and Bret Bielema were willing to extend the offer that they did.

There will be questions at the quarterback position for UCA going into Smith’s freshman season. The Bears senior quarterback Taylor Reed will be gone and there will be only one upperclassmen remaining in the corps. Smith will have opportunities to climb the depth chart early.

Smith’s commitment is the ninth 16 for 16 player to commit. Smith is the first player to commit to a non-FBS school but UCA is a strong program playing in the FCS Playoffs twice in the last six years. Perhaps Smith can lead them to more appearances in his future with the program.
