Breakout Player: DB from Brusly HS, Deven Hammond is making his move

Brusly H.S, (Brusly, LA) DB,  Deven Hammond (5’11, 190, 4.48/40) is ready for a break out year in 2015.  Deven showed signs of greatness this year for Coach Erik Willis and the Panthers.  Asa junior, Hammond recorded 54 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 21 PBU’s and 3 INT’s, (1 INT was returned for a 69 yard touchdown.)  He was a threat on special teams.  He had 8 kickoff returns for 257 yards and added 7 punt returns for 243 yards and 2 TDs.

Hammond is very aggressive, great at jamming the WR at the line, sure-handed tackler, plays the ball at it’s highest point, and has a nose for the ball.  He has an extremely high football IQ. He still needs to work on his weave technique, getting stronger and playing off ball man coverage.

Coach Mark Brown on Deven Hammond:

“Deven is a smart kid, very personable. Sometimes you don’t even know he is there. He has great upside. He can get stronger, get bigger. Needs to just keep working and see how good he really can be.  Deven has to get better focus on attention to detail and get away from the clutter. The sky is the limit with his athleticism and if he will come in and do what he is supposed to do, then he will send a message to others to work toward a common goal for our team’s success. ”

Hammond currently carries a 3.5 GPA and plans on taking the ACT and SAT in February, 2014. He plans to study Computer Engineering in college.

This past year, Deven camped at ULL and Ole Miss.  He has been invited to camps at Under Armour, Nike Combine, Army-All American Camp and Louisiana Bootleggers.

He has received interest from Arkansas (the most), LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida, UL-Lafayette, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Texas A&M & Missouri, but has no “official offers” as of yet.
