Bolingbrook (Ill.) 2014 CB Parrker Westphal

With wide receivers getting bigger and more athletic, so are the defensive backs they have to line-up against. Guys in the NFL like Darrell Revis, Patrick Peterson, and Richard Sherman all have one thing in common.

They are elite cornerbacks with the complete package. Athleticism, speed, ball skills, and tremendous size at the position.

Bolingbrook (Ill.) 2014 cornerback Parrker Westphal fits that mold as well. He’s a playmaker, with a good blend of size, speed, skills.

“The best aspect of my game I would say is being a big play defender,” said Westphal. “I keep my composure wether I make a big play, or if I made a huge mistake.”

Standing 6-1, 185-pound as cornerback, and recording 51 tackles, three interceptions, and forcing three fumbles has Westphal being coveted by a number of schools.

Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Wisconsin and Illinois are just the short list of schools that have offered him.

“I’m visiting Michigan this weekend, Florida the second week of May, and Arizona State the week after that”.

Westphal has been rumored to be a Michigan lock, but says he has no favorites. He did speak well of the program though.

“They are high on my list as of now in the recruiting process. They are a good school for academics, as well as athletics. They have a great fan base, and have a lot to offer.”

Although Westphal is one of the most sought after cornerbacks in the nation, several cites rank him from as high as the 87th prospect (ESPN 150), to the 213th (Rivals 250) in the country.

“I don’t really pay attention to rankings, but I use them as motivation though.”

As one of the top overall prospects in the state of Illinois, it will be extremely tough for the Illini to keep him home. “I’m not really worried about staying home, but I am looking for a good academic program, coaching stability, and a loyal fan base.”

“The whole process has been going good. A lot of schools have been stopping by my school,” Westphal added. “I don’t know when I’ll commit yet.”
