Introducing Arthur McGinnis

Nickname: Silent Assassin

Coach Warren: Facilities, uniforms, tradition, coaching staff, education? Which factor or combination of factors will be most important in your school choice?

AM: Education is my biggest priority. I was reared in a family that produced valedictorians, salutatorians, college professors, Ivy League graduates and Academic All-Americans. Because I have more than one dream a good coaching staff is also important in my school choice. I want to play in the NFL one day and having at my disposal a coaching staff that will help to enhance my skill set is very important for me to reach this end.

Coach Warren: School location, is playing closer to home a big deal?

AM:  I love home but being at home might not be the best situation for me. Because life is situational I am looking for the best situation to help me to reach my lifelong dreams to learn and develop entrepreneurial skills and to play in the NFL. I will be willing to go anywhere in the United States to further my personal development.

Coach Warren: Early playing time, is that important?

AM:  Early playing time is not important to me if I am not ready. I will select the right school based on me trusting the coaching staff. Like most young people I always want to play early because I am a competitor, but if my college coaching staff doesn’t feel I am ready to start I will trust their decision.

Coach Warren: What was your favorite college team growing up?

AM: LSU was my favorite college team growing up. They play with class, passion and intensity. Their staff has them ready to compete week in and week out. It seems that every year they are always in position to compete for a championship, but my love as a child will not cloud my judgment when it comes to choosing the best college for me.

Coach Warren: Have you been invited to any Jr. Days or Combines?

AM:  I am at the tail end of my sophomore year and am hearing from over 50 D1 schools across the continental U.S. because of my performances doing the 2013 spring camps and combines. So to answer your question, I expect to get invited to several Jr. Days just as I have been invited to several summer camps. As it pertains to Jr. Days, I was invited to attend the NUC 5 Star Showcase and Jr. Day where my performance positioned me to be ranked in the top 11 and where I received the LB MVP. You can see the interview online at in the search bar type my name Arthur McGinnis Warren Easton and it will come up.

Coach Warren: Who are you receiving mail from? Who’s recruiting you?

AM: The schools are as follow: Alabama, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Florida State, Florida, Penn State, Notre Dame, Washington, USC, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Clemson, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, UCLA, Tulane, UL-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, East Carolina, Virginia Tech, etc…

Coach Warren: Favorites? What stands out about your favorites?

AM: The thing that stands out about my favorites is the strength of their educational departments as it pertains to what I want to major in as a student as well as their style of defense and how it fits my skill set. I am an athletic OLB who wants the coaches to trust the OLB’S in 1 on 1 coverage. This is important to me to showcase my pure athletic ability.

Coach Warren: Time frame on a college choice?

AM: I will choose a school late in my junior year so I can focus my attention on my senior year and to give the University of my choice more time to study how my skill set can best help the team to reach its ultimate goal – to win a National Championship.

Coach Warren: Will you take all your official visits?

AM: I plan to take all my official visits if the situation allows for it.

Coach Warren: Post-season accolades, stats, All-Star games?

AM: Listed below are the awards and accolades up to my sophomore year. I have used these endeavors to make my mark in the football world thus far: Little league All Star (7th & 8th grade), Won Essay Contest to Attend New Orleans SAINT’S Reggie Bush Football Camp (8th Grade), New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul’s Basketball Camp standout, JV All District DE in 9th grade – started 3 varsity games that year / 10th Grade Honors -NIKE SPARQ All Combine Team (New Orleans 2/2/13), NIKE SPARQ All Combine Team (Houston 2/23/13), NUC All Combine Team and LB MVP Zachary / Baton Rouge, LA.(3/2/13) , NUC All Combine Team and LB MVP Jackson, Mississippi (3/9/13), Attended Invitation Only Showcase Houston (3/16/13), (Top Underclassmen), Louisiana / Mississippi NUC 5 Star Showcase and LB MVP (3/24/13) and NIKE Football training Camp (Memphis) All Camp Team (4/14/13). I plan to play in the NUC All Star Game (TBD).

Coach Warren: Have you taken any unofficial visits, are you planning some now?

AM:  I haven’t taken any unofficial visits besides summer camps. I am in the process of setting them up now.

Coach Warren: What schools are you interested in?

AM:  I am open right now. Just as I stated earlier in this Q&A session I just want to finish my junior year and let the process take care of itself. A lot of the schools are great but with more research and wise counsel from my uncle I will choose the one that is the best overall fit for my personal development.

Coach Warren: What schools have offered you?

AM: I haven’t received any offers thus far but I am hearing from a lot schools. I am not concerned right now because I have two more seasons to prove myself to them in the recruiting process as do they have two more seasons to prove themselves to me.

Coach Warren: What are your camp plans for the summer?

AM: I have been pretty busy on the camp circuit in 2013. I have attended 8 camps during the spring and have received 3 MVP’S and 8 Top performance accolades. So I plan to cut my summer camps in half to focus on team activities. I plan to attend LSU, Mississippi State, NIKE and the NUC U-100 Camp.

Coach Warren: What camps did you attend last summer?

AM: I attended the All-American Speed Performance Enhancement Camp in Baton Rouge, Louisiana under the leadership of Keith Ballard.

Coach Warren: What will be the determining factor in choosing your school?

AM: The determining factor in choosing a school will ultimately come down to what university will position me to get a world-class education as well as the school’s NFL player development success rate.

Coach Warren; What Person has inspired you the most in your life and why?

AM: My uncle Keith Ballard is the person who has inspired me the most in my life. He has been where I want to go. He has made youth development his life’s work for over 26 years where he is a renowned scholar, athlete, coach and mentor. His Foundation has seen kids off to top academic institutions as well as to BCS schools all across the United States. He has also trained over 64 NFL players with 3 who have won Super Bowls. My success over the last two months in camps and combines is relegated to the fact that we have great athlete and coach chemistry. With 6 Hall of Fame awards to his credit he has wisely used his resources and success as an athlete to guide me through the recruiting process. I now realized why he wanted me to attend Mississippi Valley State University’s Hall of Fame celebration where he was selected as a DB to the university’s football team of the greatest 100 players of all-time; having a coach with these credentials motivates me to step my game up. Plus on his wall in his office is a framed letter and picture of one his former student-athletes who wrote an essay to get accepted to Stanford University about him also being the one person who has inspired him the most.

Along with wisely guiding me through the recruiting process the best thing that my uncle Keith Ballard has done for me in this process was to unselfishly take the shoes worn by one his Super Bowl Champions off of his trophy case to give to me to wear at my first combine in New Orleans. I was motivated to perform my best and this is what started my recruiting momentum – I was selected to the NIKE All SPARQ Combine Team and 7 more top performances followed with 3 of them being MVP awards. Thank you Uncle Keith. I salute you for all of your help in this recruiting process!
