Arizona offers Central’s Sharif Williams, USC prowling

Sharif Williams of Central High in Fresno, Calif. began Tuesday to find out the University of Arizona called his coach Justin Garza to extend the class of 2014 lineman his first scholarship offer.

“It was a big surprise but I was excited to pick up my first offer,” Williams said.

He owed teammate Nick Wilson for the assist.

The Wildcats were watching Wilson’s film when they noticed Williams and requested more of his highlights.

Williams still had work to be done for the day, with representatives from USC visiting Central High to watch Williams and the Grizzlies lift and perform agility drills.

The 6-foot-3, 320-pounder is part of both Central’s offensive and defensive lines that also includes USC commit DT Tashown Smallwood.

Arizona didn’t say at this point if the Wildcats want him on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball. Williams also indicated he doesn’t currently have a preference.

“Whatever gets me on the field the fastest,” Williams said.

Although lists Williams with an offer from San Jose State, he’s not certain about that. He said the Spartans may have told Grizzly assistant coach Tony Perry that they wanted to offer but they have not verbally offered Williams himself.
