Kosnitzky’s Korner: American Heritage Plantation – Will They Play Past Thanksgiving?

Last year I had the pleasure of seeing American Heritage Plantation welcomed district foe Cardinal Gibbons to their facility. I looked forward to a close game. This was evident  when Gibbons receiver George Rushing made a great catch in the end zone through traffic to tie the score at 7-7. Unfortunately for Rushing and his teammates, American Heritage would dominate every aspect of the game from that point forward as the Patriots defeated the Chiefs 70-19.

Aside from a 3 point loss to FHSAA 4A state runner up, Jacksonville Bolles, this team played a perfect regular season and was poised to make a run at the state title last year. Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, Miami Jackson was able to pull the upset and end the Patriots hopes and dreams with an early exit. Finishing their season with a 16 point loss at home was hard for many to comprehend and ended up being the last game for head coach Jeff Dellenbach.

As we enter 2013, 5 star running back, Sony Michel returns for his senior season. With an early game at home against Cypress Bay on ESPN on August 25, followed by #1 Miami Central, new coach, Mike Rumph will learn the caliber of his team very quickly. The other district teams in 16-5A are Miami Jackson, Key West and Cardinal Gibbons and this team has a enough talent to make a playoff run. The question is whether or not this team can make it to a Regional Final and play past Thanksgiving.
