2016 St. Amant Gators (Louisiana) Loaded With Talent-Mallory, Bourgeois, and more

Everyone talks about how important the offseason is in preparing for a championship. For the St. Amant Gators there is no offseason. Everyday is a workday for the Gators. In 2015, the St. Amant Gators reached the second round of the LHSAA 5A State playoffs. This year the Gators are ready to make a run for a championship as they return 15 starters (8 offensive, 7 defensive) for the 2016 season. Hayden Mallory (@haydenmalloryy) (Sr, QB 5’11” 187) will return at quarterback for the Gators after a successful junior campaign. Mallory, a first year starter in 2015, set several school records for the Gators including Completions/Attempts, Total passing yards (2,645 yds), and passing TD’s (30 TD’s). He also rushed for one touchdown. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he garnered All-District, 1st Team All Parish and Player of the Week Honors in 2015.

Mallory has been under the recruiting radar but looks to emerge as one of the top quarterbacks out of the Baton Rouge area in 2016. He would like to find a program where he could contribute both as a player and a leader for his team. Mallory also plays on the Gators baseball team where he is a pitcher and a middle infielder. Academically, he maintains a 3.7 GPA in the classroom and currently has a 21 ACT.

Mallory’s favorite target is LSWA and LFCA All State and District 5-5A Offensive Co-MVP Briggs Bourgeois (@Briggs_bourg) (Sr. WR 6’0” 183 2015 Stats:45 catches for 815 yards and 16 touchdowns) Bourgeois is primed and ready to go for the Gators in 2016. He has certainly tallied up the honors over the past two years not only as a wide receiver and special teams player in football but also in soccer. In 2015, he received All State honors from both the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) and the Louisiana Football Coaches Association (LFCA). He was named Player of the Week-Week 5 and was a finalist for the 2015 Warrick Dunn Player of the Year Award (the most prestigious POY Award for players from the Baton Rouge and surrounding area). Bourgeois has also received All District and All Parish Team honors the past two years. In 2014, he received All State, All Parish, and All District honors for soccer and in 2015 has already been named 1st Team All-District and Overall MVP (5-5A Soccer) for the second straight year. He received the Max Preps Player of the Game versus Dutchtown on Jan. 8, 2016.

Bourgeois also handles the kicking duties for the Gators were he received 1st Team All District, 1st Team All Parish, and Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) and Louisiana Football Coaches Association (LFCA) All State honors in 2015. (2015 Stats: FG:15-19(Longest – 51) Ext. Pts 35-36 Kicking Distance Average: 66.02 Total Pts: 120).

Bourgeois is also a varsity starter for the Gators baseball team.  In the classroom, he maintains a 3.3 GPA and he received his first offer this week from Nicholls State University.

Returning in the backfield for the Gators will be 2018 Mark Darby, (@markdarby12) (Jr. RB 5’10” 201). Darby ran for  454 yards on 68 carries and 3 TD’s in his sophomore season. He is sure to provide an extra offensive weapon for the Gators in 2016. He received All District and 2nd Team All Parish honors as a Sophomore.

Defensively the Gators will be returning 7 starters including two year starter 2017 Cade Roddy, (@cadeeroddy) (Sr. LB, 5’11” 180) a fast and furious linebacker that is relentless in his pursuit to the ball. He received 1st Team All District and 1st Team All Parish honors. (2015 stats:120 Total Tackles,2 FF,4 PBUs, and 7 Sacks)

Patrick Wolfe

In the secondary, their go to guy is 2017 Patrick Wolfe (Patrickwolfe_21) (Sr, FS, 6’0” 170 GPA: 3.22) His most memorable moment was the win over Lutcher this past season. The Gator defense was able to get a key defensive play, an interception, that gave the ball back to their offense. The offense was able to score on the next possession and then a forced fumble and sack by one of his teammates secured the win for the Gators.  Wolfe’s biggest playing influence is LSU and Florida’s DB’s because of the bond and team chemistry they have.  He also models his style of play after Patrick Peterson and Eric Reid.  They are his role models because they are the best at their position and great individuals off the field. Wolfe has received interest from Rhodes College and the University of Tennessee, as well as, in-state schools.  He garnered All District and 2nd Team All Parish honors in 2015. (2015 Stats: 96 Tackles, 2 FF, 2 Sacks, 9 INTs)
