2016 S Cedrick Wright, Homestead High, FL

2016 S Cedrick Wright (5’10, 175, 4.6/40) of Homestead High in Florida started as a freshman on the varsity squad recording 107 total tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and a touchdown last season. He’s just starting to emerge on the recruiting scene and told Varsity Preps he’s not had much contact with recruiters quite yet. “No sir, I haven’t heard from any universities concerning recruiting, but Florida St. wants me to camp there.”

Wright said he plans to camp at Miami and Florida St. this summer. He also mentioned he’d like to hear from Ohio St.LSU, and Florida in the future and “I watch a lot of Alabama and Oregon on TV.”

He’s receiving extra reps by participating in spring 7-on-7 football. “I’m playing for Strong Arm and we’ve qualified for the IMG national 7-on-7 tournament, so that’s going well.”

Homestead’s promising young freshman was utilized all over the field last season. “I played some outside linebacker and defensive end, but my main position is safety.”

Wright shared what he feels the strength of his game are. “I think my speed and being able to time my blitzes are strengths and they allowed me to make a lot of plays,” he said. “I’ve been working on my ball skills and working out everyday to get better this offseason.”

On the recruiting end, Wright knows what will be important to him during his decision making process. “I want to play early. If I can contribute right away, that’s big for me,” he said. “Playing closer to home would be nice, but I’m willing to leave Florida. I’ll take advantage of my best opportunity wherever it leads me.”
