2015 Watch List QB Maurice Alexander, Homestead High, FL

2015 Watch List QB Maurice Alexander (5’11, 170, 4.66) of Homestead High in Florida is a prospect on the rise in South Florida. His play this spring for the South Florida Express 7-on-7 team has caught the attention of college recruiters all across the southeast.

Last season, he threw for over 1400 yards and connected for 13 touchdowns, and throwing just five interceptions as a sophomore starter.

Alexander recently witnessed a spring practice at Florida. “The practice was intense, hard-hitting, and they were getting after it. I talked to Gators WR Coach Joker Phillips and he showed me some coverages and how to handle them. It’s a program I could see myself attending.”

The sophomore signal-caller told Varsity Preps his experience at Miami’s spring game was exciting. “I talked with LB Coach Micheal Barrow and he told me he wants me to camp. It was great to see a fellow Homestead player, WR Herb Waters ball out and get off to a great start to his sophomore season,” he said. “I like Miami because they’re close to home and it’s been my childhood dream to play for the Hurricanes.”

He spoke about what stands out to him about FSU and Alabama. “I like the Seminoles because they’re a winning program and I know they’re working hard. I like Alabama because they’re in the SEC, it’s a great program and they produce NFL prospects.”

Homestead’s young quarterback plans to camp at MiamiFlorida, Florida St.Alabama, and Georgia.

Alexander said his goals this season are to have the best ever season in Homestead’s history. “We want to go undefeated and play for a state championship,” he said. “Individually, I want to throw for 2500 yards and 25 touchdowns in the fall.”
