2015 S/OLB Stood Out at USF Camp

2015 Watch List ATH Rodrick Archer (6’1, 190, 4.41) of South Plantation High in Florida camped for USF Thursday at Miramar Park.

He claims verbal offers from Cincinnati and Central Florida, and based on his performance at camp, South Florida isn’t far behind. He won the fastest linebacker race with ease and did a nice job covering elite RB Dalvin Cook.

“It was a great experience for me. I was guarding Cook from Miami Central and he’s an excellent back. I figured if I’m going to get better, I need to take reps against the best, which is what I did,” Archer told Varsity Preps. “The South Florida coaches were telling me throughout camp that I was doing a great job.”

South Plantation’s speedy athlete expects to hear more from South Florida in the coming weeks.

“They were impressed with my speed and they want me to visit, and we also discussed an offer,” he explained. “They told me I’ll have an offer from them by September 1.”

Archer confessed a verbal offer from the Bulls would force him to rethink things.

USF would be high for me. I’m deciding if I want to stay in Florida, but that can change depending on who offers. It’s a good school.”

The rising junior prospect unofficially visited last season.

“I got a closer look at the program and I like their campus and facilities. The weight room is incredible and it was one of the things that caught my eye.

“I was impressed with the staff, also. They’re hype, I like how they run practice and I feel it’s a good group of coaches. I could see myself at USF.”

Archer shared his remaining summer plans.

“I’m planning on camping at Ohio St. and South Plantation will play in 7-on-7 tournaments until fall practice starts.”

His first cousin, 2015 Watch List RB Jordan Scarlett, and he grew up together and have always been competitive with each other.

“We are always competing. Now, I’m behind him on offers and I need to catch up soon.”

Archer feels he remains under-the-radar despite the offers from Cincinnati and UCF.

“I have a lot to prove. I feel I can be among the best outside linebackers in the nation, I just need to go out on the field and show what I’m capable of.”
