2015 Rising Star: LaGrange HS RB/S, Daquarious “Mon” Denson Spotlight

Head Coach Donnie Branch of LaGrange HS in LaGrange, GA is accustomed to preparing players to play at the collegiate level and eventually the NFL. LaGrange has produced such players as: Tray Blackmon (Auburn), Sam Olajubutu (Arkansas) and Wesley Woodyard (Kentucky). Woodyard is presently playing for the Denver Broncos. So when Branch tells Varsity Preps that he has a kid that is potentially better than all of those guys, then Mon Denson (6’0, 210, 4.47/40) is not to be taken lightly.

Coach Branch on Mon Denson at LB:

Mon is really physical, a great run stopper and can cover underneath from side to side. He was forced to play LB for us this year out of necessity. He’s a hybrid on defense. He’s a safety that goes down in the box, but can play the linebacker position because he’s explosive and a natural hitter. Sometimes, he has trouble getting off blocks, but to be fair, he split time at RB and really didn’t have the reps at linebacker. People haven’t seen his best football. ”

Coach Branch on Mon Denson at RB:

Mon possesses a level of explosiveness where he does not get caught from behind. He has great field vision and a knack for finding the crease. He’s a punishing blocker and has a chance to be a great running back at the D-1 level.  If he gets to the outside, he can do some damage on the edge.  He’s a really likable kid that is always smiling. He has to  improve on his leadership, but every year he’s improved. Next year, he’ll be the “bell cow” and  should carry the ball 30 times a game. He’s got to step up to do that for our team to be successful. LaGrange HS will go as Mon Denson goes.”

Denson told Varsity Preps that he currently has a 3.0 GPA and plans to take the ACT and SAT in February, 2014. Mon plans on studying exercise physiology, sports medicine, or sports science in college.

Denson has official offers to play from North Carolina, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech.  He is also receiving interest from Notre Dame, FSU, Virginia, Georgia, Clemson, Indiana and Auburn. Denson camped at UGA, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Auburn last year.

He was invited and plans on attending the Under Armour Camp on January 1-2, 2015.  Also, he will attend the VTO Camp in January in Atlanta, GA.

Mon Denson is an elite RB. Look for more of Mon in 2015!
