2015 RB Soso Jamabo Doubles As a Basketball Player

Saturday afternoon, Plano, (TX.) Plano West 2015 running back Sotonye “Soso” Jamabo tweeted out, “Since day 1 I’ve been working for that day I got offered by the University of Texas…that day has finally come. I couldn’t be happier.”  “It was an amazing feeling. There is nothing better”, said Jamabo. “I was in Mack Brown’s office and we talked, and later offered me a scholarship.”

Jamabo rushed for 1,700 yards and 28 touchdowns as a sophomore, and looks to be a front-runner for top recruit in the 2015 class. Besides being offered by in-state school Texas, Jamabo holds offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Baylor. “I have no leader thus far. I’m planning to visit Oklahoma this summer, and i’m not sure about anything else.”

People compare the 6-3, 195-pounder to fellow Texans Eric Dickerson and Adrian Peterson. That is high praise for a kid who is only in the 10th grade, and is a basketball player. Yes Jamabo is being recruited by schools for basketball also, and that’s how he first made a name for himself. 2012 was his first season playing varsity football, and he is a natural at both.

“Hopefully the future is bright in basketball also. I have interest from Oklahoma, Texas and Stanford. I have thought about playing both sports in college. but I haven’t come upon that decision yet.”  Jamabo averaged 14.7 ppg., and 4.2 rpg., last season in basketball, and plays with one of the best AAU teams in the land, with one of the best players in the land; Kentucky bound forward Julius Randle and the Texas Titans. Ohio State is the only school to have offered Jamabo in both sports so far, and I expect more schools to recruit him as a dual-athlete.

The state of Texas is known for producing some of the best running backs to ever live, including Earl Campbell, Billy Sims, Doak Walker, LaDainian Tomlinson and many more. Soso Jamabo already looks to be next in line.
