Varsity Preps

2014 JuCo CB/S Sheldon Wynn, Hartnell College (CA)

2014 CB/S Sheldon Wynn (6’1, 210, 4.37) of Hartnell College (CA) graduated from Braddock High (FL) last year and has three years to play two. In his freshman season, he amassed 45 tackles, three interceptions, forced one fumble, and returned a fumble recovery and an interception back for scores.

Wynn got a second chance to extend his football career when local sportswriter and 7-on-7 coach Jerry Williamson noticed his talents and assisted Wynn on his arrival at Hartnell College. Now, the former Braddock product looks like he’s destined to play Division I football. He reported to Varsity Preps he’s hearing from Boise St., New Mexico, Fresno St. and Cincinnati.

Boise St. likes my film, size, and overall ability. They told me that I can help them.

Fresno St. told me they like my size and speed.

Cincinnati said they think they can use me at multiple positions: cornerback, nickel, and safety.”

Wynn feels his game compares favorably with Arizona Cardinals All-Pro Patrick Peterson. “We’re both big, strong, fast, and excel on special teams. I look up to him,” he said. “I’m aggressive and combined with my size and speed, makes it difficult to match up against me, like Peterson.” This offseason, he’s been working on “my hands, jamming, and opening up my hips.”

Hartnell’s big time corner said he’s interested and open to all programs, and mentioned what might entice him in picking a school. “Whichever school that recruits me the hardest and can get me on the field the quickest, that’s where I’ll go. It doesn’t matter where the school is located. I feel I have the skill set and physical tools to start right away.”

Wynn plans to graduate in December and participate in spring drills next season, so a decision will come soon from the impressive junior college prospect. “I want to have my mind made up no later than halfway through the season.”
