2014 CB Mike Johnson Up to 10 Offers

2014 CB Mike Johnson (6’1, 182, 4.52) of Countryside HS in Florida is an athletic, long corner who ranks #47 overall (#5 CB) on Varsity Preps Elite 75 Prospects List in Florida for 2014.

The junior standout is up to 10 offers, the latest from FSU and Vanderbilt. “I like FSU a lot. I feel like I fit their school and program and I’m planning my first unofficial visit there this spring,” Johnson said.

Vanderbilt likes me a lot, the staff tells me they could see me contributing early and that they need corners right away.”

Both Vanderbilt and Florida St. are in good position with Countryside’s outstanding young talent.

Although Johnson is seeing an uptick in his recruitment, he has no favorites emerging just yet. “I’m still wide open and will consider any school.”

Miami and Missouri will receive camp visits from him over the summer. “I think I’ll also visit Clemson and a few others, finalizing all those plans now.”

Johnson is perfecting his craft and staying in shape by playing 7-on-7 football for Team Tampa. “Last year the team won nationals and we’re looking pretty good now. We’re planning on making it down to the IMG tournament to defend our title.”

Johnson talked about what will be most important to him during his decision making process when choosing a program. “I’m looking for the right fit, how I get along with players and coaches in the program.”

Early playing time will play a role when he makes his college choice. “I don’t mind playing special teams at first. Florida St. said if I come there and compete hard I could see the field early, but anywhere I go I plan on competing for early time.”

Johnson told Varsity Preps he feels that Florida St., USF, and Louisville are recruiting him the hardest currently. “Every time I speak with FSU, I talk with every single coach. I think they really want me.

Louisville I feel wants me, too. I speak to a few coaches on every phone call and I’ve built solid relationships with the staff there,” Johnson said.

His first cousin, East Lake’s 2014 WR Artavis Scott (#18 Elite 75), have spoken about the possibility of attending the same school on the next level. “Its not that we’re a package deal, but it’s our intention to play together in college.”

Johnson doesn’t have a timeframe to make his decision public. “I don’t know. When I feel right about a situation, that’s when I’ll make my decision.”
