Rising Star: 2014 CB Juwan Dowels, Western High, FL

2014 CB Juwan Dowels (5’10, 160) of Western High in Florida is a talented corner with six offers: Cincinnati, Appalachian St., Western Michigan, Ball St., Louisiana Lafayette, and South Alabama.

He’s in a starting role on defense for the Florida Fire and because of his play against elite
competition on the 7-on-7 circuit, has earned himself a handful of offers.

Dowels reports Western Michigan is at the top of his list. “I’m liking them a lot right now. I
talk to the staff almost everyday and they say that I have a chance to return kicks and punts
right away.”

FIU, Rutgers, and UCLA have contacted Western’s junior corner to gauge his interest in their programs. “UCLA is saying they want me to camp and that they want to see me continue to develop.

Rutgers said they really like my talent and that they’ll be in touch with me during the spring.”

Dowels recently attended a Junior Day at South Florida. “Head Coach Willie Taggert is bringing change to that program, I believe they’ll get better with him as coach. USF is another program that told me they’ll be scouting me in the spring.”

He believes his next offer will come from FIU. “I spoke with DB Coach Jason Brooks last week and he told me that he’ll have an offer for me next time he calls.”

Over the summer, Dowels will camp at Western Michigan, Appalachian St., Miami, Florida, and FSU. “I don’t have anything else lined up as of now, but I can’t wait to hit those camps.”

The number one factor in his college choice will be his level of comfort within a program. “I’m
looking for a situation where I can have relationships with my coaches on and off the field, a
program that’ll teach me to be a man,” he said. “I’m looking for a program that’s building and
can make me a better football player.”

Dowels told Varsity Preps he wants to have a decision in place before his senior season starts.
