14 RB Gregory Howell has Eight Offers, More Interest

2014 RB Gregory Howell (6’1, 204, 4.52) of Coral Gables High currently possesses eight offers: MinnesotaFlorida AtlanticLouisiana Tech, and Western Kentucky among them. He’s also hearing from Cincinnati and Purdue.

Howell told Deep South Recruiting that he’s rushed 150 times for 1200 yards and 13 TDs this season for a 7-1 Coral Gables team that’s already secured a playoff spot.

Things are going well for Howell on the recruiting front. “I have eight offers, but I’m still wide open, I haven’t committed yet. I’m focused on my season and the playoffs.”

A Big Ten program has the big back’s interest. “Minnesota’s staff tells me that they really need me, that I’ll get the ball early and often. They make me feel wanted.”

Howell has already visited Minnesota and he shared what stood about the Golden Gophers‘ program. “The staff showed me around and explained how they run everything. I like how they have programs set up for their athletes, they give you all the tools you need to be successful,” he said. “On the visit, I feel like I really connected to the players and coaches.”

Coral Gables’ talented senior explained that four programs are showing him a lot of interest. “Right now I’d say Minnesota and FAU are coming at me the hardest, followed by Cincinnati and Purdue.”

He described the contact from those programs interested. “I speak with the FAU staff quite often and they want me to attend a game in November.

“Both Cincinnati and Purdue tell me they want to see me play before they offer.”

Howell did mention he’d like to visit both UC and Purdue after the season is over. There’s no timetable on making his decision.

He wants to play for a program that’s primary focus is running the football. “I want to play in an offense that’s going to run the ball a lot and where I can be productive.”

Asst. coach David Cooney says of Howell: “He’s a phenomenal athlete that has all the tools. He’s a downhill back, I could easily see him in the Big Ten running the ball. Minnesota has offered and Purdue is recruiting him heavily. Minnesota actually was recruiting for 2015 when they saw him in practice and decided to offer. Greg is a full qualifier; he owns a 3.1 GPA. He’s a specimen and I feel he’s college ready right now.”
